How plants grow
Plants are living things that grow from tiny seeds into big, beautiful plants when they get what they need!
Have you ever seen a tiny seed turn into a tall sunflower or a crunchy carrot? It might seem like magic, but it is actually science! Plants are living things, just like you and me. They start their life as a small seed, hidden inside the soil, waiting to grow.
For a plant to grow, it needs a few very important things: soil to hold its roots, water to drink, sunlight to make food, and air all around it. When a seed gets water and warmth, it starts to sprout โ a tiny shoot pushes up through the soil and tiny roots reach down. This is called germination. Little by little, the plant grows leaves, a stem, and sometimes flowers or fruit!
Here are two examples you might know. First, think about a sunflower seed. You plant it in soil, water it every day, and leave it in a sunny spot. After a few weeks, a green shoot appears, and over time it grows into a tall flower that faces the sun! Second, think about a bean seed. If you put a bean between a wet paper towel and a window, you can actually watch the root and shoot come out โ it is like watching a plant being born!
Plants are truly amazing. They grow slowly and steadily, and they need our care to do their best. ๐ฑ Here is something to think about: If a plant does not get any sunlight, what do you think might happen to it?
