Magic Letter Sounds: Short Vowels!
Today we learn how the letters a, e, i, o, and u make special short sounds that help us read words!
Have you ever noticed that some letters make a very special sound? The letters a, e, i, o, and u are called vowels, and every single word needs at least one of them. They are like the heart of a word!
Let's listen to short vowel sounds. The short a says /a/ like in cat. The short i says /i/ like in pig. The short o says /o/ like in mop. The short e says /e/ like in bed. And the short u says /u/ like in bug. Can you say each sound out loud? You are doing wonderfully!
When you see a small word, look for the vowel in the middle. In the word hat, the vowel is a, and it says /a/. In the word sit, the vowel is i, and it says /i/. Finding the vowel helps you sound out the whole word like a reading superstar!
Now let's practise together. Look at a word, find the vowel, say its short sound, and blend all the sounds together. You are going to be an amazing reader โ let's go!
