Adding Up to 20 with Number Friends
Today we learn how numbers team up to make sums up to 20!
Adding means putting two groups together to find out how many there are in all. When we add, we use a little plus sign (+) between the numbers, like 3 + 4. The answer we get is called the sum!
Here is our first example: Imagine you have 5 red apples and 6 green apples. If you put them all in a basket, how many apples are there? We add 5 + 6 = 11 apples. Great job counting!
Here is our second example: You have 8 stickers, and your friend gives you 7 more. Now you have 8 + 7 = 15 stickers in total. That is a lot of stickers!
Remember, adding always makes a bigger number. You can count on your fingers, draw dots, or use a number line to help you. Every time you practise, you get faster and stronger at adding. You are doing amazingly well — keep going, superstar! 🌟
