Rhythm and music
Rhythm is the steady beat in music that makes you want to clap, tap, or dance!
Have you ever clapped along to a song, or tapped your foot without even thinking about it? That feeling is called rhythm! Rhythm is the pattern of beats in music โ like a heartbeat for a song. It tells us when sounds happen and how long they last. Every song you have ever heard has a rhythm inside it.
Here is a fun example: think about clapping your hands to "Happy Birthday." You clap at certain moments โ not all at once, but one clap at a time in a special pattern. That pattern of claps is the rhythm! Another example is a ticking clock โ tick, tock, tick, tock. That steady, repeating sound is a simple rhythm too.
Music is made of lots of things working together โ sounds, silence, and rhythm. When a drummer hits a drum, or when you stomp your feet on the floor, you are making rhythm. Even your own voice can create rhythm when you say words in a bouncy, patterned way, like in a nursery rhyme!
๐ Reflection question: Can you think of a song you love? Try clapping along to it โ what does the rhythm feel like? Is it fast and exciting, or slow and calm?
