My Community: Helpers, Places, and Belonging
Discover the special people and places that make your community a wonderful place to live!
A community is a group of people who live, work, and play in the same area. Your neighbourhood, town, or city is your community! Communities can be small, like a village with just a few streets, or very large, like a busy city with millions of people. Everyone in a community helps make it a great place to be.
Communities have special helpers who take care of everyone. Firefighters keep us safe from fires, doctors and nurses help us when we feel sick, and teachers help us learn new things every day. Police officers help keep our streets safe, and postal workers make sure our letters and packages arrive at the right door. Each helper has an important job!
Communities also have important places where people go. A library is where you can borrow books and learn. A park is where families can play and relax. Schools, hospitals, shops, and places of worship are all part of a community too. These places help people get what they need and spend time together.
Being part of a community means we look after each other. We can help by being kind to our neighbours, picking up litter, and saying thank you to our community helpers. When everyone does their small part, the whole community becomes a happier and healthier place for all!
