Naming our feelings
We all have feelings every day, and learning their names helps us understand ourselves and talk to others!
Have you ever felt something inside you โ maybe a warm, happy feeling when you see your best friend, or a wobbly, nervous feeling before something new? Those things you feel inside are called feelings (sometimes called emotions). Everyone has them โ kids, grown-ups, even teachers! Feelings are not good or bad; they are just messages from inside us that tell us what is going on.
There are many different feelings, and they all have names. Some feelings feel cosy and bright, like happy, excited, or proud. Others feel heavy or uncomfortable, like sad, scared, or angry. Knowing the name of a feeling is like turning on a little light โ suddenly you can see what is happening inside you!
Example 1: Imagine it is your birthday and you just opened a present you really wanted. Your heart feels bouncy and warm โ that feeling is called happy or excited!
Example 2: Now imagine you cannot find your favourite toy and you look everywhere but it is gone. Your tummy feels heavy and your eyes might want to cry โ that feeling is called sad.
Here is something to think about: Can you remember a moment from today when you felt something strong inside? What do you think that feeling might be called? ๐
