Feelings Are Friends: Understanding Our Emotions
Today we learn that all feelings are okay and we can find kind ways to handle them!
Have you ever felt happy, sad, angry, or scared? Those are all called feelings or emotions. Feelings are like messages from inside your body that tell you what is going on. Every single person has feelings โ and that means you are never alone!
Some feelings feel cozy and warm, like happiness when you laugh with a friend, or pride when you finish something tricky. Other feelings can feel heavy, like sadness when you miss someone, or frustration when something is hard. All of these feelings are completely okay to have.
Here is a helpful idea: when a big feeling shows up, you can name it and tame it. First, take a slow breath and say the feeling out loud โ "I feel angry" or "I feel worried." Just naming it helps your brain calm down a little. Then you can choose a kind action, like talking to a grown-up, drawing a picture, or taking a short walk.
Remember, feelings come and go like clouds in the sky. Even the tricky ones do not last forever. Being kind to yourself and others โ especially when feelings are big โ makes the whole world a friendlier place. You are doing a wonderful job just by learning about this today!
